"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Hey there, I’m Shari. I’m a small-town gal who grew up in Millbrook, IL, and still call Kendall County home today. I haven’t always been involved in foster care and knew very little about child welfare until four years ago when we accepted our first placement, a 5th-grade student of my husband’s. My eyes were opened to a whole new world. I had honestly never given much thought to foster care. That “yes” we gave to bring Jose into our home changed the trajectory of our lives in the best way possible.

I’m a “mom” to eleven humans through biology, international adoption, and foster care. My new favorite title is Mimi, and a date night with Phil will always be my favorite. He’s always been my biggest fan and my absolute favorite person on the planet.

Starting a nonprofit was never on my list of life goals, but here we are. Even in my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have imagined this. I’m so proud of how we have made kids and families feel seen. I’m so humbled by the caliber and servanthood of the volunteers who have embraced our mission and given tirelessly of themselves. I’m so grateful for our donors who champion our mission by sharing their treasure so the ministry can happen. I’m deeply aware of the privilege of working alongside these incredible people and doing this work.

I’ve learned so much and have so much to learn. Even though I feel ill-equipped at times to do what the Lord has called me to do, there is a peace that comes with following Him, even when it’s scary and uncomfortable. This quote from John Piper resonates deep within my soul; “Few things make me tremble more than the possibility of taking this one and only life and wasting it.”

Thanks for stopping by our little corner of the internet.

Until all kids have a family,

Shari Chapman

STAFF

JEN HALL

Caregiver Support Coordinator

As a foster mom, Jen attended the first support group Called to Care ever held and has been an intricate part of the group ever since. Her Human Services and Psychology degree and her passion for serving others and loving children made her an excellent fit for the team.

Jen is uniquely qualified to walk alongside families as they navigate challenging circumstances. Jen devoted 20 years to Linden Oaks Hospital as a mental health professional and has experience as a foster and adoptive parent. Her personal and professional involvement with crises, vulnerable people groups, and trauma-related events are precious in her Caregiver Support Coordinator role.

Jen is an advocate with CASA Kendall County and is active at her church, Harvest New Beginnings in Oswego. Awana and Vacation Bible School have been meaningful to Jen's and her family's lives. Her most passionate role is that of wife and mom to her five children, and you can catch her dog walking in her neighborhood most mornings, rain or shine!
